How Our Sudoku Puzzles Are Checked
Daily Sudoku only works if the date is trustworthy and the board feels fair. This page explains what the site checks today, and what we deliberately do not over-claim.
Checked puzzle data
Each puzzle stores an 81-cell starting board, a complete solution, difficulty metadata, and technique tags. The codebase includes board-shape validation, complete-board validation, and a solver that can count solutions for uniqueness checks.
Difficulty is a guide
Easy, Medium, and Hard are based on puzzle metadata such as givens, rating, and the hardest recorded technique. They are useful labels, but human solvers vary; a careful beginner may find a Medium board easier than a rushed Easy one.
Helpers stay visible
Hints, checks, checked mistakes, and time are shown in the result card. Leaderboard submission is optional and does not require an account. Progress and streaks are saved in your browser unless you clear local storage.
What we do not claim
We do not claim every puzzle is manually reviewed by a human expert. We also do not claim the anonymous leaderboard is cheat-proof. The current product is intentionally lightweight: no signup, local progress, optional anonymous score submission, and clear labels about how assists affect your result.

Are daily Sudoku pages stable?
Yes. The daily entry page uses the current New York date, while each /daily-sudoku/YYYY-MM-DD URL stays tied to that date and remains replayable from the archive.
How are difficulty labels chosen?
Each puzzle carries metadata such as givens, rating, max technique, and technique tags. The labels are practical guideposts, not a claim that every solver will feel the same difficulty.
Do hints reveal the whole solution?
No. A hint fills or points to one next cell so the puzzle can keep moving. It is counted in your local result and leaderboard submission.
